Your mastery

 Key responsibilities:

  • To proactively communicate the company's vision, strategy and values to ensure that all employees within the factory understand how their individual efforts contribute to the achievement of overall company objectives.
  • To process purchase invoices and handle supplier queries.
  • To allocate customer payments based on remittances received.

Credit control

    • The Accounts Apprentice shall receive Cash on Delivery money from transport, allocate it against customer accounts and arrange banking.
    • The Accounts Apprentice shall allocate bank payments & cheques received to customer accounts accurately.
    • The Accounts Apprentice shall assist with any Customer Requests.

Purchase Ledger

    • The Accounts Apprentice shall file all delivery notes received.
    • The Accounts Apprentice shall match all purchase invoices to delivery notes, and arrange authorisation by management.
    • The Accounts Apprentice shall process purchase invoices & credit notes onto the financial system accurately.
    • The Accounts Apprentice shall assist with any Supplier Requests.
    • The Accounts Apprentice shall raise purchase orders when required.

General Admin

    • The Accounts Apprentice shall perform any filing & general admin tasks requested

QA Officer

Your mastery

Reporting into the Technical Manager you will support with all aspects of quality assurance so that the best possible procedures are in place which will allow top quality, safe and legal products to be produced at all times.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Technical Manager to ensure that all company procedures and ensures that these are up to date and fit for purpose at all times.
  • Write and prepare the technical element of product specifications.
  • All company procedures are meticulously documented, monitored, reviewed and revised as necessary.
  • Maintains all aspects of the quality management system, including internal and external audits.
  • Supports with ensuring the results of all audits are acted upon and liaises appropriately with the managers responsible in this respect.
  • Supports with ensuring that all company marks and accreditations are successfully retained on an annual basis.
  • Supplier audits, including the verification of alleged accreditations, are religiously carried out in accordance with the pre-determined timetable and company procedure.
  • All complaints are reviewed and both corrective and preventative actions agreed and implemented which will not only solve the initial problem but also prevent it from happening again in the future.
  • Liaises proactively with suppliers and customers on technical issues.
  • Technical inductions are carried out for new employees and those needing refresher training.
  • Supports the Technical Manager to ensure that all aspects of food safety and testing in a thorough, diligent and professional manner.
  • Technical input to new product development and product changes.
  • Assists the Factory Manager in the professional and effective identification and management of hazards and critical control points.
  • Ensures that complete, accurate and thorough records are kept of all company processes affecting the quality of the product so that full traceability is achieved.
  • Keeps up to date and networks with other industry professionals so as to keep abreast of best practice in quality management.
  • Monitors and reports on all aspects of quality performance within the factory.
  • Works closely with the Factory and Technical Manager to ensure that all factory procedures are fit for purpose and are respected and adhered to by all members of staff.

The key ingredients

This role would ideally suit someone who has quality assurance experience within food manufacturing. A food safety Level 3 and Haccap Level 3 qualification are a minimum requirement. A food science or related degree would be desirable.

Multi-Drop Driver

Your mastery

We are seeking a full time delivery driver to carry out day to day deliveries of our supplies to customers throughout the North of England. At Althams Butchers we have great partnerships with our customers and suppliers therefore we expect our team to deliver high standards of customer service. As a driver at Althams Butchers it’s not just about getting a delivery from A to B, it’s about delivering on time, to customer requirements and being passionate about our products.

The key ingredients

If you want to join a great team and you have some multi-drop delivery experience (although not essential as training will be given) and UK full driving licence then this could be the role for you. The hours will be a minimum of 40 hours per week, working 5 days over 6 (Monday to Saturday). The hourly rate for this role is £7.83 per hour.

Purchasing Manager

Your mastery

Reporting into the Managing Director, you will manage all aspects of purchasing and supplier management within the company so that the company is able to consistently source the high quality products it requires, on acceptable lead times and at competitive prices.

You will manage the company’s suppliers proactively and professionally so that supplier performance is good and strong, mutually beneficial relationships are developed and maintained.

As a proactive and constructive member of the Management Team you will proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation as an excellent butcher and a great place to work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Products, specials etc., required by the business are quickly, accurately and professionally sourced.
  • The Purchasing Manager maintains a high level of market awareness at all times.
  • The Purchasing Manager negotiates professionally at all times.
  • Orders are placed at the right time so as to minimise stock levels but maximise customer service and factory productivity.
  • Orders are placed at the right price, bearing in mind how the product is going to be used and that price is often time dependent.
  • Whilst striving to achieve the most competitive price possible, the Purchasing Manager takes care is to ensure that products are genuinely of the required quality and that relationships with key suppliers are not damaged by an insistence on unreasonable or unsustainable prices.
  • The Purchasing Manager liaises closely with all relevant sales, operations and product development personnel.
  • The Purchasing Manager keeps up to date and networks with other purchasing professionals so as to keep abreast of best practice in purchasing and supplier management.
  • The Purchasing Manager builds and maintains good, strong and productive relationships with all important suppliers and all suppliers are proactively managed.

The key ingredients

This role would ideally suit someone who has purchasing experience at a mid-level within food manufacturing (preferred). CIPS qualification is desirable. You must be an excellent communicator, with solid negotiation skills, highly organised and demonstrate initiative.

 Quality Controller

Your mastery

Reporting into the Technical Manager, you will manage all aspects of quality control within the company so that any incoming or outgoing product which does not conform to the pre-agreed standards is identified and appropriate corrective action taken.

You will provide advice and support in the management and resolution of customer complaints so that not only are solutions found quickly for the customer but also preventative measures put in place to prevent any future recurrence. You will lead and provide advice on the development of the company specification manual.

You will proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation as an excellent butcher and a great place to work.

Key responsibilities:

  • To undertake a series of factory production line audits to gather real time measurements of the production process inputs and outputs, from all stages of the process starting at raw materials receipt, through recipe weighing/mixing, freezing/defrosting, blast freezing, cutting, and packing.
  • All incoming and outgoing products and raw materials, including packaging and labelling, are religiously inspected on a daily basis.
  • To communicate with suppliers when the raw materials specifications are not met and to monitor the actions taken by suppliers to eliminate or reduce recurrence to acceptable levels.
  • To provide expert advice on the suitability of raw materials to achieve the desire quality and yields.
  • To provide expert advice on New Product Development and participate in the preparation of NPD samples.
  • To deliver training to staff on quality aspects to ensure they meet the desired quality and expected yield.
  • To report actual yields and quality of the finished products on a on a weekly basis against the expected yield and quality of finished product.
  • To carry out organoleptic tests on meat cuts, meat products, meat preparation against its final product specification & QAS.
  • To monitor the performance of the butchers to ensure they are preparing products to customer specification, if there are any concerns to raise these with the appropriate Team Leader and Technical Manager.
  • To lead and develop a Finished Product Specification Manual based on recognised industry guidelines with the support of relevant colleagues.
  • To provide expert input in the selection of raw materials.
  • To identify areas for process improvement and potential cost efficiencies in the selection of raw materials and processing.
  • To prepare products and take photographs are prepared, as requested by the Technical Manager.
  • To liaise proactively with the Purchasing Manager.
  • To liaise proactively with the Sales Team to attend visits to customers, as requested and carry out demonstrations.
  • To provide advice and support in the management and resolution of customer complaints so that not only are solutions found quickly for the customer but also preventative measures put in place to prevent any future recurrence.
  • To liaise proactively with the Factory Manager and the Technical Manager with regard to any necessary corrective and/or preventative actions.

  • Factory tours are carried out, as requested by the Directors or the Factory Manager.
  • The Quality Controller is a role model for the company values and behaviours and champions ongoing initiatives to perpetuate and develop the desired company culture.

The key ingredients

This role would ideally suit someone who has worked within Quality Control within food manufacturing (ideally meat production). You must know what you’re looking for and be able to influence our team of experienced Butchers therefore previous experience as a Chef or Butcher is preferred. You must be highly organised, demonstrate attention to detail and have excellent communication skills. You must be IT literate able to use Word and Excel.

 Customer Support Team Leader

Your mastery

Reporting into the Operations Director, you will manage the Customer Support Department so that excellent customer service is provided and every opportunity is taken to improve relationships and to increase sales to target customers. You will be a proactive and constructive member of the Althams Team and proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation as an excellent butcher and a great place to work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Management of the Department

    • All members of the team know and understand the departmental objectives and the contribution they can make to the achievement of those objectives.
    • Performance targets are in place for each member of the team.
    • The Team Leader carries out routine tasks whenever there is time, eg researching menus, to help the other team members and maximise efficiency.
    • The Team Leader proactively involves the team in trying to improve the performance of the department.
    • The activities of the team are carefully planned, implementation is carefully managed and effectiveness of those activities carefully reviewed.
    • The Team Leader liaises proactively with the Financial Controller on the financial implications of proposed actions and financial imperatives for the business.
    • New account applications are carefully reviewed and released where appropriate.
    • The Team leader proactively generates ideas to improve customer service and to increase sales.

    Customer Support

    • Incoming telephone calls are responded to quickly and efficiently by all members of the team.
    • Order details are accurately recorded, issues resolved and queries answered to the satisfaction of the customer.
    • Customer complaints are received and responded to politely and constructively and details passed to the appropriate people within the company.
    • All members of the Department communicate proactively with customers and with the Sales Managers responsible and make every effort to build relationships with the key people concerned.
    • All incoming on-line orders and faxes are dealt with quickly, accurately and efficiently and within the pre-agreed timescales.

    Sales Development

    • The Customer Support Team Leader drives, focuses and organises sales development activities such as the promotion of specials.
    • All members of the team proactively upsell to existing customers.
    • Knowledge and understanding of existing customers is systematically and progressively built and used to develop additional sales and build relationships.
    • Sales information is produced, in an accurate and timely fashion, as requested by the Operations Director.
    • Sales performance is regularly reviewed and opportunities identified to increase sales, eg by researching menus (what customers are buying/not buying) and by seeking out new customers on existing delivery routes, either directly or by prompting the Sales Managers.
    • The Team Leader liaises with purchasing with regard to specials.

    Sales Administration

    • Price lists, including for specials, are prepared quickly but accurately and within the pre-agreed timescales.
    • Appointments are made for the Sales Managers, as requested.
    • Customer specifications are prepared and customer databases maintained, accurately and efficiently.
    • New accounts are opened and submitted for approval within the pre-agreed timescales.
    • All databases for which the Customer Support Team is responsible are accurate and up-to-date at all times.
    • Price reviews are prompted at the pre-agreed time.
    • New products are set up on the system, accurately and efficiently and within the pre-agreed timescale.
    • All incoming emails are responded to in a polite, accurate and timely fashion.

    People and Performance Management

    • All roles within the department are defined in detail, documented and performance standards agreed with the job holder.
    • Day to day personnel issues are dealt with quickly and professionally, with the involvement of HR.

The key ingredients

This role would ideally suit someone who has worked as a Team Leader, Supervisor or Manager within a Customer Service role. You must be highly organised, good knowledge of current customer service practices, demonstrate leadership capability and have excellent communication skills.

 

Transport Manager

Your mastery

Reporting into the Operations Director you will lead and manage the team of people within the Transport department so that the dual objectives of excellent customer service and a high level of efficiency and cost effectiveness are simultaneously achieved. To be a proactive and constructive member of the Management Team and to proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation as an excellent butcher and a great place to work.

Key responsibilities:

  • The Transport Manager proactively communicates the company’s vision, strategy and values to all members of staff and ensures that all employees understand how their individual efforts contribute to the achievement of overall company objectives.
  • The Transport Manager ensures that all staff are in roles for which they are suitable qualified and trained and that they are able to meet the pre-agreed performance standards.
  • Staffing levels, including agency staff, holiday cover, overtime etc., are planned and managed, in a proactive, preventative and forward looking way, with support from the HR Manager.
  • The Transport Manager keeps up to date and networks with other industry professionals so as to keep abreast of best practice.
  • The Transport Manager monitors and manages all aspects of performance within the transport operations.
  • The fleet of vehicles is carefully and proactively managed.
  • The Transport Manager works closely with the QA Manager to ensure that all transportation procedures are fit for purpose and are respected and adhered to by all members of staff.
  • The pre-agreed housekeeping and health and safety standards are consistently achieved.
  • The Transport Manager drives and facilitates the generation of new ideas to improve performance.
  • Whenever problems occur or complaints are received, root causes are identified and corrective and preventative actions agreed and implemented so as to minimise the probability of any recurrence.
  • The Transport Manager is the primary point of contact for customers regarding transportation issues and is constructive, helpful and solution focused at all times.
  • Every opportunity is taken to collect customer and market intelligence and the drivers are encouraged and trained to do so.
  • Any customer or market intelligence collected is proactively and speedily communicated to the Operations Director.
  • The Transport Manager communicates proactively with members of the sales team, whenever necessary.

Order Packer

We are currently recruiting for two positions:

1 x days (9am until 6pm - Mon to Friday) and

1 x nights (7:00pm until 5:30am 4 nights per week)

Your mastery

Key responsibilities include:

  • To inform the Packing Room Team Leader of any products which are not in stock so the necessary actions can be taken.
  • Ensure that the correct quality and standard of meat as specified on the customer order is adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure all meat is labelled correctly and placed with care and consideration to other products which are placed into trays/boxes/bags etc.
  • Take care when strapping and labelling boxes and make sure all boxes are placed with the customer case sticker pointing to the outside of the pallet when stored.
  • To ensure there is no deterioration of products and prepared stock.
  • At the close of business ensuring all stock and products are stored correctly, according to date, in the appropriate fridge or freezer.
  • To ensure all machinery and equipment are stripped down and rinsed ready for the Factory Cleaner and the necessary Cleaning Procedure Sheet has been signed.
  • At all times to be suitably dressed and wear all the protective clothing and equipment correctly as supplied by the Company, and to be responsible for these items.
  • Ensuring cleanliness of the packing area and abide by all Health and Hygiene and Health and Safety procedures as laid out by the Company at all times.
  • To use the equipment for its purpose at all times, including colour coded equipment.
  • Ensuring correct procedures of manual handling and packing of meat at all times.
  • At the end of each shift place all dirty protective clothing into the dedicated bins and all aprons and wellies are clean and stored in the correct area.
  • If and when necessary to help out in other departments.

Butcher (Days)

The hours will be 7:00am until 4:00pm (40 hours per week).

Your development will be fully supported through our training Academy by being on a recognised training course for the area of work your in.
