In October 1994 we were granted an EC License by MAFF – License no 4578.

During 1993/1994 the Directors, Management and Staff achieved the quality assurance standard of BS 5750 now known as ISO 9001:2000 – certificate no 1379.

Audited annually by CMi (Check Mate International) to BRC (British Retail Consortium) Global Standard Food - Issue 4 required in order to supply major breweries and supermarkets.

“Mey Selections” Beef – produced under License no 102, part of His Royal Highness the Duke of Rothesay’s North Highland Initiative.

Authentic CAAB – Authentic Certified Aberdeen Angus Beef.

All members of our factory staff have basic Food Hygiene Certificates. Managers have Intermediate and Advanced Hygiene Certificates.

Microbiological tests are carried out by a UKAS independent outside accredited laboratory.

New employees are registered on NVQ schemes in meat and poultry and are coached by an in-house trainer.

Annually audited by NQA (National Quality Assurance) to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2000 applicable to the preparation and distribution of meat products.

Audited by MHS (Meat Hygiene Services) on behalf of FSA (Food Standards Agency).

Althams Quality Assured - AQA - Over 150 Years Of Excellence

Althams Quality Assured English Beef and Lamb reflects a history of which it is justly proud supplying naturally reared and traditionally prepared farm assured meat from local areas within a 70 mile radius of our factory.

These products are naturally reared on farms operating schemes to the EBLEX quality standard mark, including FABBL, and those only personally inspected by James or Richard Altham may carry the AQA mark.

AQA Beef and Lamb are matured on the bone in a traditional manner and then prepared by our team of specialist butchers. The time and passion we apply in creating these products must be experienced by tasting the flavour and tenderness of the meat.
